EnergonX PowerBox KARAVAN [A018]-2

KARAVAN [A018]-2 is the inverter-equipped version of the EnergonX PowerBox KARAVAN [A018]-1. The 12 V system, built around a high-capacity, self-heating Bluetooth LiFePO₄ battery, is extended with a pure sine wave 230 V output.

The modular design retains KARAVAN’s 12 V connections and expandability, while also allowing intermittent operation of 230 V loads. The inverter is attached to the side of the PowerBox with a detachable mounting kit, so the system remains inspectable, serviceable and adaptable.

Key advantages of this configuration

Pure sine wave 230 V output

The inverter module provides two 230 V sockets. A pure sine wave is also more suitable for sensitive electronic equipment than a modified sine wave solution.

1200 W rated power

In this 12 V finished product, the inverter can be used at 1200 W rated power and 2000 W peak power.

Detachable slide-foot inverter mounting

The support bracket and rubber spacer of the NOMAD+ inverter mounting kit, together with the two slide-foot connections, provide stable but detachable mounting.

How the inverter module operates in this system

The inverter automatically detects a 12 V or 24 V input. KARAVAN [A018]-2 is a 12 V finished product, so only the 12 V output ratings apply.

1200 W continuous output

The combined continuous power of connected 230 V loads must not exceed 1200 W. In practice, it is advisable to retain some reserve, particularly in warm environments or during prolonged operation.

2000 W short-duration peak

Peak power is intended to handle short startup demands. For motor-driven, compressor-based or other loads with high inrush current, the rated power alone is not sufficient to determine compatibility.

Two 230 V sockets

The two sockets share the output capacity of a single inverter. The power of simultaneously connected loads must be added together.

USB-C and USB-A

The inverter’s own USB outputs provide an additional charging option for smaller devices alongside the PowerBox’s built-in USB-C PD outputs.

Why is this finished product not rated at 4000 W?

The inverter’s commercial designation also refers to the 4000 W peak output available in 24 V mode. KARAVAN [A018]-2 is a 12 V system, so the correct values for this finished product are 1200 W rated and 2000 W peak.

Mounting the inverter module on the KARAVAN model

KARAVAN includes ten factory-installed M8 inserts for mounting external modules. The inverter module is attached to these with the NOMAD+ inverter mounting kit and the two detachable slide-foot connectors.

Factory-installed M8 inserts

KARAVAN already includes ten M8 mounting points, so no separate M8 insert kit is required to install the inverter module.

NOMAD+ inverter mounting kit

The EX2310-INV-001 kit provides the inverter support bracket and rubber spacer. Despite its NOMAD+ name, the kit is also suitable for KARAVAN models.

Two detachable slide-foot connections

The QS Custom Connectors Set 3 – EX2100-QBRCC connects the inverter mounting kit to the PowerBox’s M8 mounting points with two slide feet.

Rubber spacer

The rubber spacer maintains a stable side clearance between the inverter mounting kit and the PowerBox housing and supports the external inverter module.

Why is the mounting kit called NOMAD+?

The base NOMAD version does not include factory-installed M8 inserts, so it additionally requires the 10-piece M8 insert kit (EX2100-QBRM8I). NOMAD+ and KARAVAN already have the required factory-installed M8 mounting points; the EX2310-INV-001 inverter mounting kit can be used with both designs.

Battery and charging

LiTime 12 V 165 Ah self-heating Bluetooth LiFePO₄

The built-in battery provides 2112 Wh nominal energy, a 150 A smart BMS, Bluetooth monitoring, OTA support and automatic self-heating.

EnergonX 14.6 V / 40 A / 0 V LiFePO₄ charger

The included charger operates from a 230 V AC supply and charges the built-in battery through a red 50 A Anderson connector.

Runtime with a 230 V load

Runtime depends on the load’s power, the inverter’s own consumption, conversion losses, temperature and BMS operation. The 2112 Wh nominal energy therefore cannot be divided by the load’s wattage without accounting for losses.

Important operating and safety information

The load’s startup power must also be checked

A refrigerator, pump, compressor, power tool or other inductive load may require several times its rated power at startup. The device may only be used if both operating and startup power remain within the inverter’s limits.

Treat the 230 V output as mains electricity

Dangerous mains voltage is present at the inverter sockets. Damaged cables, connectors or appliances must not be used. Earthing, protective-conductor, neutral-conductor and N–PE arrangements must follow the inverter documentation and the requirements of the specific application; where necessary, involve a suitably qualified electrician.

Outdoor and waterside use

The PowerBox can be used outdoors and in field environments when the lid is closed and the protective caps of unused connectors are secured. Protect the inverter module from precipitation, splashing water and dust that could block ventilation, and keep its vents unobstructed.

Marine starting function

The starting function may only be used to start a fuel-powered marine outboard engine. Starting current must be taken directly from the battery’s M8 terminals; the external PowerBox connections and the inverter must not be used to carry starting current.

Recommended applications

Camping and longer off-grid stays

For operating lighting, portable coolers, smaller kitchen or electronic devices and other suitable 12 V or 230 V loads.

Fishing and boating

For powering fish finders, navigation, communication equipment, chargers and intermittently used 230 V devices with suitable environmental protection.

Mobile work and demonstrations

For situations where a large 12 V energy reserve and a pure sine wave 230 V output are both required.
